The Hay Manager
A Division Of IGWT
Design and Construction
Design:
Most commercially-built round bale hay feeders on the market are poorly designed and cheaply built. Our hay feeders are designed so that the critters pull the hay off the bale but can't pull it out of the feeder and trample it on the ground. The hay stays in the feeder and the animals eat what is in the feeder. Additionally, by elevating the bale off of the ground the animals will eat the hay in the bottom of the feeder first, rather than reaching up to pull hay off of the bale. This keeps most of the hay in the bale rather than sitting on the ground where it can spoil.  We estimate that with our design, critters waste less than 1.5-2%, compare that to 10-20% or more wasted by conventional designs.

Construction: Conventional hay feeders are cheaply built using 20-guage steel, which is like using tin can thickness steel. These cheap feeders end up being broken under the slightest abuse by animals or by the farmer/rancher. Because we have a 110-head herd of cattle, we know what can happen when animals are pushing into eachother trying to eat, so we built the hay feeders that we use (the same ones that we sell) to take that abuse and last years without repair. Honestly, who wants to pull their hay feeder into the shop or take a welder out to repair it? We certianly don't, and neither does any other farmer/rancher who has limited time, and time is money. Our feeders are constructed entirely from 14-gauge steel with cold-rolled 3/4" solid steel cone rods and heavy-duty chain. Our feeders wheigh 475 lbs., compared to conventional feeders which usually run about 150 lbs.
